Northville Downs will close on Feb. 5, the Michigan Gaming Control Board has announced.

Northville Downs, which offers live horse racing on weekends and simulcast racing,  has been open for nearly 100 years and has been under the same family’s ownership for about 80. The racetrack’s site on South Center Street in the Detroit suburb of Northville was sold in 2018 and is slated for a $250 million redevelopment project.

Northville Downs has acquired 128 acres in Plymouth Township, near Five Mile Road and Ridge Road, for a new harness racing facility. The project is pending approval from the township board.

The final race will take place on Feb. 3, and two days later, the site will no longer accept in-person wagers. Michigan bettors will be able to place pari-mutuel bets on through advanced deposit wagering platforms like TwinSpires and FanDuel/TVG. Simulcast wagering will resume at the new site once it opens.

People holding winning wagers have until Feb. 10 to claim their winnings at the existing facility. After, winners can mail their tickets to a designated postal address in Plymouth for processing, provided they are presented within 60 days after the race meeting.

“The Michigan Gaming Control Board expresses our deepest gratitude to all of the Northville Downs patrons who have made each race day memorable and thrilling,” MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams said in a statement, “We appreciate the support of those who have kept Northville Downs going for 80 years and look forward to the next chapter of horse racing in Michigan at a new location.”
