More employees of Encore Boston Harbor are unionizing.

A news release today said 85 cage cashiers have voted to unionize with Teamsters Local 25. They join 140 Teamsters employed by the casino.

“These workers fought long and hard, determined to win a strong voice on the job,” Local 25 President Tom Mari said in a statement. “All of us at Local 25 are ready to make sure these new members get the industry-leading pay and benefits that they deserve.”

The cage cashiers, who convert chips and money for customers at the casino, said they unionized with the Teamsters to seek higher pay, better benefits, and a voice in the workplace.

“We joined the Teamsters because we believe in fairness, respect, and building a better future for everyone on the job,” said Ranjana Thapa, an Encore worker and new member of Local 25. “It wasn’t easy, but we overcame every obstacle, stood together through the hard times, and never backed down.”
