Massachusetts casinos generate $91 million in revenue in May

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission this week reported gaming revenue in the Bay State in May reached $91 million. That’s   a decrease of 8.0%   from the $99 million generated in April.

Encore Boston Harbor generated the most revenue for the month, $58.0 million, a decrease 9.8% of from April’s   $63.7 million. MGM Springfield brought in $21.1 million, down 6.2% from the previous month’s $22.5 million. Plainridge Park Casino also saw revenues decrease in May to $11.7 million from the previous month $12.9 million, a decrease of 10.3%

At Encore, revenue from slots reached $32.6 million, with table games games accounting for $25.4 million. MGM Springfield generated slot revenue of $17.1 million and table game revenue of $4.0 million.

Plainridge, a slots-only property, had $11.7 million in revenue.

Massachusetts collected $25.5 million in tax revenue from the three casino in May. Encore Boston contributed $14.5 million, Plainridge $5.7 million, and MGM Springfield, $5.3 million.

Massachusetts has collected about $1.1 billion from the gaming operators since they first opened: MGM Springfield in 2018 and Encore Boston Harbor in 2019. Plainridge Park Casino, which also is the site of harness racing track, opened in 1999.
