January 17, 2013 · 3:00am ET | 12:00am PT

BOSTON (AP) – Now that a key deadline has come and gone, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission will consider a handful of requests for additional time to file casino applications.

Among those who have asked the panel for a waiver is Chicopee Mayor Michael Bissonnette, who still hopes to lure a casino developer into the western Massachusetts city.

The commission on Thursday will also consider waivers sought by Good Sam’s Casino, WM Development Company and Seafan Trust.

Eleven firms met Tuesday’s 5 p.m. deadline to file initial casino applications and a $400,000 non-refundable application fee.

Four of the applicants are seeking the western Massachusetts casino license; three are hoping to land the east regional license and two plan to bid for a slots parlor. The remaining two applicants have yet to announce specific plans.
