Louisiana: July gaming revenue declines 8.0% from previous year

For July, the Louisiana Gaming Control Board reported $204.2 million in gaming revenue from riverboat casinos and Harrah’s New Orleans, the state’s only commercial land-based casino. That amounts to a year-over-year decline of 8.0% compared to the $222.0 million generated in July 2021.

The handle for online sports betting was $103.3 million, with a revenue of $19.3 million — an 18.7% hold. Retail sports betting generated revenue of $1.4 million from a handle of $15.0 million.

Each market posted a decline, with Baton Rouge casinos posting the largest drop of 15.7%.

The Lake Charles district properties posted the smallest drop and the largest revenue. The three region’s three casinos posted $78.9 million in revenue, a decrease of 1.5%. Golden Nugget Lake Charles’ $31.5 million in gaming revenue barely edged L’Auberge Casino Resort Lake Charles’ total of $31.2 million for the top spot. Delta Downs Racetrack Casino Hotel generated $16.2 million.

The gaming revenue at Shreveport/Bossier region’s seven properties declined 13.1% to $50.9 million. Margaritaville Resort Casino generated $17.8 million, Horseshoe Bossier City brought in $13.4 million, and Bally’s Shreveport Casino & Hotel totaled $8.1 million.

Revenue at New Orleans’ casinos was $48.1 million, a decrease of 7.7%. Harrah’s New Orleans generated $22.6 million in revenue, followed by Boomtown Casino & Hotel with $10.3 million and Treasure Chest Casino with $8.2 million in revenue.

In Baton Rouge, revenue from the region’s three riverboat casinos totaled $20.0 million, a drop of 15.7%. L’Auberge Casino Hotel generated $14.4 million, Hollywood Casino Baton Rouge, $4.4 million, and the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino Hotel, $1.2 million.

Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino in St. Landry Parish generated revenue of $6.2 million, a decrease of 16.1%.
