Louisiana: Gaming revenue reaches $211.7 million in December, slight drop from previous year

The Louisiana Gaming Control Board recently reported $211.7 million in gaming revenue from riverboat casinos and Harrah’s New Orleans, the state’s only commercial land-based casino, in December 2022. That’s a 1.5% decrease from the $214.9 million generated by gaming operators in December 2021.

Revenue from online sports betting was $30.8 million, with a handle of $219.0 million and a win rate of 14.1%. Sports betting revenue at brick-and-mortar casinos was $6.4 million for the month, with a handle of $35.6 million and a 18.0% win rate.

Of the four Louisiana markets, only the Lake Charles district posted a year-over-year increase. Those properties posted $85.9 million in gaming revenue, a 12.3% year over year increase. L’Auberge Casino Resort Lake Charles generated revenue of $31.4 million, followed by Golden Nugget Lake Charles with $30.1 million, and Delta Downs Racetrack Casino Hotel with $13.8 million. Horseshoe Lake Charles, formerly Isle of Capri Lake Charles, brought in $10.6 million after reopening on Dec. 12, 2022, after being closed for more than two years.

The Shreveport/Bossier region produced $51.9 million in gaming revenue for the month, a 7.6% decrease from December 2021. Margaritaville Resort Casino generated $17.9 million, Horseshoe Bossier City posted $13.7 million, and Bally’s Shreveport Casino & Hotel totaled $10.0 million.

Gaming revenue from New Orleans casinos was $46.1 million, a year over year decrease of 10.4%. Harrah’s New Orleans generated revenue of $22.9 million, followed by Boomtown Casino & Hotel with $10.1 million, and Treasure Chest Casino with $6.8 million.

Baton Rouge properties generated $22.0 million, a 9.1% decrease from December 2021. L’Auberge Casino Hotel generated $16.4 million, Hollywood Casino Baton Rouge, $4.4 million, and the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino Hotel, $1.1 million.

Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino in St. Landry Parish generated revenue of $5.9 million, a year over year decrease of 11.3%.
