The Casino Collectibles Association announced Wednesday that it will offer four free seminars during its 31st annual show from June 13 to 15, 2024. The seminars, to be held in the Joshua Room of the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, will feature a variety of Vegas lore and history.
The scheduled seminar topics and speakers are:
“History of the Sands,” June 13, 8 a.m. PT
Gaming historian, Dr. David Schwartz, a University of Nevada, Las Vegas professor, will cover the history of Sands Hotel & Casino from its construction and expansion to its demise. Schwartz also is the author of “At the Sands: The History of a Las Vegas Strip.”
“The Dunes Hotel: The Mob, the Connections, and the Stories,” June 13, 3 p.m. PT
Geno Munari, a longtime gaming industry professional who worked for several Vegas casinos, will speak about his book, “The Dunes Hotel and Casino: The Mob, the Connections, the Stories.” Munari will talk about the Dunes’ connection to infamous characters such as Meyer Lansky and Jimmy Hoffa.
“New Horizons—Preserving Gaming History with Podcasts,” June 14, 8 a.m. PT
Side Bet Podcast host Rene Contreras, a chip collector and hobbyist, will explore how podcast platforms share and safeguard gaming history.
“Gambling on a Dream: The Classic Las Vegas Strip 1930 – 1955,” June 15, 3 p.m. PT
Las Vegas historian Lynn M. Zook, author of “Gambling on a Dream: The Classic Las Vegas Strip 1930-1955,” will discuss classic Vegas Strip casinos, including the El Rancho Vegas, Flamingo, Thunderbird, Desert Inn, Sahara, Sands, Rivera, Royal Nevada, and the Dunes.
