Iowa casino revenue down 11.1% year-over-year in February

Iowa casinos reported revenue of $127.3 million in February, down 11.1% from $143.3 million recorded in February 2024.

According to a report published by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission, Iowa’s 19 licensed casinos generated $57.2 million in table game revenue, down 12.5% compared to the previous year, which generated $65.3 million. Slot game revenue produced $115.4 million, a year-over-year decline of 10.9%, dropping from $129.5 million.

Three casinos in the Hawkeye State generated revenue above $10 million. Prairie Meadows Racetrack & Casino generated the most, reporting $17.8 million, dropping from $19 million generated in February 2024. Horseshoe Casino Council Bluffs produced $12.9 million, decreasing from $15.4 million year-over-year. Ameristar Casino Council Bluffs produced $12.3 million, down from $15.8 million last year.

However, Iowa sportsbooks faired better in February. Sports wagering net receipts were up 56.3% year-over-year, rising from $13.6 million to $21.3 million.

The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission also revealed that despite net receipts increasing, sports wagering handle and payouts were down in February, with the handle decreasing from $220.6 million to $216.5 million year-over-year and payouts declining from $207 million to $195.2 million year-over-year.
