iGaming Ontario Q2 FY 2024-25 market performance report: Wagers and revenues climb again

The latest iGaming Ontario market-performance report was released today, showing another quarter of wager and revenue increases. The report covers the second quarter of the 2024-25 fiscal year.

According to the report, total wagers of CA$18.7 billion (US$13.5 billion) in the second quarter, which does not include promotional wagers, or bonuses, is a 1.6 percent increase over the last quarter and a 31.7 percent increase over the second quarter of 2023-24. 

Total gaming revenue in the second quarter was CA$738 million (US$532 million), a 1.7 percent increase over first quarter and a 35.4 percent year-over-year increase. Gaming revenue is the total cash wagers, including rake, tournament, and other fees from all operators, minus player winnings from cash wagers, not taking into account operating costs or other liabilities. 

In the second quarter, there were 51 operators and 83 licensed gaming websites with activity. There were more than 1.32 million active player accounts in the second quarter, down from 1.9 million active player accounts in the first quarter, and the average monthly spend per active player account was CA$308 (US$222), up from CA$284 (US$205) in the first quarter.

Casino games, including slots, live and computer-based table games, and peer-to-peer betting, led the charge again – 86 percent of total wagers, CA$16 billion (US$11.5 billion) and 75 percent, or CA$553 million (US$399 million) of gaming revenue. 

Betting on sports, esports, proposition and novelty bets and exchange betting was 12 percent, or CA$2.2 billion (US$1.6 billion) of total wagers, 23 percent of gaming revenue, or CA$167 million (US$120 million).

Peer-to-peer poker was at 2.2 percent of total wagers, or CA$417 million (US$301 million) and 2.4 percent, or CA$18 million (US$13 million) of gaming revenue.
