Huge raid against illegal gambling in Berlin

Investigators have inspected dozens of gambling establishments across several districts of Berlin and uncovered dozens of misdemeanours. Machines and funds have been seized.

The districts of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, Neukölln, Pankow, Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Tempelhof-Schöneberg, Steglitz-Zehlendorf and Mahrzahn-Hellersdorf were scrutinised by the police and investigators across 28 venues. This exhausting mission lasted several hours.

In Charlottenburg the police found several vending machines that operated in an arcade without any permission.

Also, in an arcade on Wilmersdorfer Strasse authorities discovered fourteen illegal slot machines over the maximum number of eight licensed for. The equipment and the revenue of the gambling hall were confiscated. During the event, the operator tried to hide around €3,000.

The investigators seized another 24 gambling machines and in total recorded around 16 offences based on the organisation of illegal gambling and 65 gaming offenses. Whether taxes were paid on these devices at all is now part of a further investigation being undertaken by the State Criminal Police Office.
