HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) — Hammond officials say the city expects to spend about $1 million on installing decorative lighting along various streets in the coming months to make them safer.

The (Northwest Indiana) Times reports nearly $1.5 million in decorative lighting already has been installed on dozens of other streets this year.

The city’s engineering staff coordinates on the lighting upgrades with council members, who are allotted a certain amount of casino money for projects in their districts.
