Griffin takes over as North Carolina lottery panel chairman

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – The North Carolina Education Lottery Commission has a new chairman.

Durham real estate company executive Kim Griffin led his first meeting Wednesday, when the commission selected vendors to help operate and print lottery tickets for the next several years.

Gov. Pat McCrory appointed Griffin last month as a member after A.J. Daoud (DOW’-duh) stepped down to run for North Carolina secretary of state.

McCrory also named Griffin the commission chairman, meaning Keith Ballentine was removed from the post but remains on the board. Ballentine had been the chairman since 2013 and was originally appointed to the board through the recommendation of then-House Speaker Thom Tillis.

State law says the chairman serves at the pleasure of the governor.
