Global law firm Greenberg Traurig said Tuesday that attorney Mark Hichar has joined the legal giant’s Boston office as a shareholder in the gaming practice.

Hichar has more than 25 years of experience working for gaming operators, system suppliers, game developers, and gaming licensees. He has worked as both inside and outside counsel to gaming companies, including lottery providers and casinos.

“The expansion of the practice and addition of a lawyer with Mark’s experience and respect is in line with our strategy of growing in areas key to our clients,” Brian L. Duffy, Greenberg Traurig CEO said in a statement.

Terence McCourt, managing shareholder of firm’s Boston office, said the emergence of casinos and fantasy sports has made Massachusetts a key gaming industry market.

“The breadth and depth of Mark’s professional experience make him uniquely qualified to address issues at the intersection of gaming technology and regulation,” McCourt said.

Greenberg Traurig’s global gaming chairs are Martha Sabol in Chicago, Mark Clayton in Las Vegas and Lorne S. Cantor in Miami.
