The Golden Nugget in downtown Las Vegas plans to be the first casino to reopen in Nevada next week when it restarts its gaming operation at 12:01 a.m. on June 4.

Most casino companies are waiting until the mid-morning on Thursday to reopen casinos closed since mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We have anxiously awaited the city’s reopening and look forward to getting our employees back to work,” Golden Nugget General Manager Chris Latil said in a statement.

The Golden Nugget will open its 2,400-room hotel, pool area, and its Claim Jumper restaurant on Wednesday at 3 p.m., ahead of the casino. Under the casino reopening issued by the state, gaming can’t begin until Thursday.

“We have worked with public health officials and gaming regulators for several weeks now preparing for this reopening,” Golden Nugget Senior Vice President of Gaming Operations Gerry Del Prete, said. “Our teams are ready and excited to welcome guests and players again.”

The Golden Nugget, downtown’s largest hotel-casino, is owned by Houston billionaire Tillman Fertitta.

The resort plans to open all its restaurants and bars under the Center for Disease Control guidelines and recommendations.

“We are following all CDC, state and regulatory guidelines and taking all prudent and essential measures to ensure a safe, clean environment for our guests and employees,” Latil said.
