Free-to-play games provider Virtual Gaming Worlds has extended its partnership with world champion swimmer Michael Phelps after last year’s Global Poker Celebrity Challenge, which Phelps featured in alongside basketball stars Karl-Anthony Towns and Paul George.

Phelps will help promote upcoming Global Poker challenges, tournaments and promotions, a press release said.

“I’m thrilled to expand my partnership with Global Poker,” Phelps said in the press release. “As someone who loves competition and strategy, I have always really enjoyed the game of poker. Partnering with a leader in the online social poker space is really exciting, and I look forward to working together to bring new experiences to the Global Poker community.”

“Mr. Phelps is not only an exceptional athlete and poker player, but he brings this great energy and aligns with the Global Poker brand incredibly well,” VGW Chief Marketing Officer Mats Johnson said in the press release. “He already has a strong following and we expect this partnership to add to that to truly take the Global Poker brand from strength to strength.”

Founded in 2010, VGW operates various free-to-play gambling brands, including Chumba Casino, Luckyland Casino and the social poker site Global Poker. Last week, it was reported that the Delaware Lottery has asked VGW to cease operations in the state amid a nationwide crackdown on social casino platforms. VGW has also faced issues in Georgia and Michigan over the past year.
