GAN Limited Wednesday announced that its board of directors has accepted the resignation of CEO and Director Dermot Smurfit. Gan is evaluating a consulting arrangement with Smurfit, who remains a substantial stockholder in the company.

GAN also announced that the current chairman of the board, Seamus McGill, will serve as interim CEO. McGill, whose appointment was effective Sept. 26, has more than a quarter century of experience in gaming and technology industries. He joined GAN’s board in April 2014.

“On behalf of the entire board and GAN team, I want to extend our appreciation to Dermot for his commitment to the company since joining twenty years ago, McGill said in a statement. “Under Mr. Smurfit’s leadership, GAN experienced many great accomplishments and reached numerous milestones as a company. Having served on the Board since 2014, I have a deep understanding of the company, our talented teams, and our market position. I am honored to assume leadership of all of the company’s executive functions and have been heavily involved in our ongoing strategic review process. We will continue to evaluate the indications of interest that we have received and will work to optimize the process and its outcome for shareholders in due course.”

McGill has 25 years of direct industry experience and has been a member of the board of directors for over nine years. Previously, McGill was president of JOINGO, the mobile software company. He also has worked with Aristocrat Technologies, Cyberview Technology, WMS Gaming, and Mikohn Gaming.
