With the pool season well underway, the Nevada Gaming Control Board threatened disciplinary action against casinos turning a blind eye to drug use, sexual violence, prostitution, and other crimes at their venues.
The Board, along with the Metropolitan Police Department, sent a notice to properties regarding activities at nightclubs, party pools, European pools, day clubs, and similar event venues.
“We believe it is necessary and appropriate to renew our admonitions and remind licensees of their responsibilities regarding these venues,” the notice said.
The letter cited drug use and distribution, sexual assaults, violence, theft, underage patrons, prostitution, and criminal activity related to entertainers, artists, and their associates. It also expressed concerns over security screening procedures.
“Regardless of the association or contractual agreement between the licensee, a lessee, or a third-party operator, the licensee remains responsible for ensuring operations conducted on its premises comply with all federal, state, and local laws and Nevada State gaming regulations,” the notice said. “The Board continues its focus on this critical matter and licensees will be held accountable for breaches of this responsibility.”
Since the inception of gaming laws and regulations to address areas of concern within the industry, licensees have taken numerous proactive steps to prevent these incidents, the notice pointed out.
“We commend the development of these world-class entertainment venues, but the incidents described above reflect poorly on the venue, the licensee, the gaming industry, and the state of Nevada,” the notice said. “Involved law-enforcement entities are taking necessary measures to deal with illegal acts or unsuitable business practices. However, persistent problems at any of these venues will be considered an unsuitable method of operation by the Board and may result in disciplinary actions.”
