HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – A surge in gambling revenue will mean more property tax relief for Pennsylvania homeowners this year.

State Budget Secretary Randy Albright said Wednesday that more than $783 million – the most in recent memory – will be available for property-tax reductions through the homestead exclusion program.

That’s expected to translate into tax cuts of about $200 per household. Final figures are expected in early May, when counties will report the number of homeowners who signed up for the program.

Homeowners in 66 counties will see their reduction in the school property bills they receive this summer. Philadelphia’s $86 million share will be used to reduce its wage tax.

Some of the money will help finance a separate program that provides rent and property tax rebates to low-income seniors and renters.
