Masterpieces and monuments of French culture that are at risk should be renovated. For example, Villa Viardot, a meeting place for artists of the nineteenth century, must be restored urgently and is among the main candidates. Thanks to the potential returns from running a proposed lottery, these renovations may now be partially achieved.
Stéphane Bern, the president of the Selection Committee, is at the heart of this idea. He hopes to raise €15 to €20 million through this scheme. Both lotto and a scratch card game will be sold in order to raise the necessary funds to support a range of monuments in danger. These games are a bet on the future to safeguard the past and an opportunity for all to contribute to the French heritage.
According to Bern, the sites and monuments which can claim to benefit from the revenue of this special lottery are culturally important. They range from small local heritage sites requiring €10,000, €20,000 or €40,000, to large monumental buildings worth €10 million.
