For a 16th year, FireKeepers Casino Hotel in Battle Creek, Michigan, on Monday donated 2,600 turkeys to five regional food banks and the Kendall Street Pantry in Battle Creek.

“Giving back to the community is a foundational value at FireKeepers,” FireKeepers Casino Hotel CEO Frank Tecumseh said in a statement. “We know the holidays can be difficult for many families, and this donation is one way we can help support our neighbors and ensure more households can share a meaningful mean with loved ones.”

The South Michigan Food Bank in Battle Creek will receive 1,500 turkeys to directly support local families. Four additional food banks across Michigan and northern Indiana will each get 200 turkeys to help meet seasonal demand in their communities including:

  • Community Harvest Food Bank, Fort Wayne, Indiana
  • Feeding America West Michigan Food Bank, Comstock Park, Michigan
  • Food Gatherers, Ann Arbor, Michigan
  • Greater Lansing Food Bank, Lansing, Michigan.

The Kendall Street Pantry, owned and funded by FireKeepers and supported by volunteers including FireKeepers team members, will get 300 turkeys in December to assist families during the Christmas season.

FireKeepers will host a complimentary Thanksgiving meal at Battle Creek Central Commons from 11 1a.m. to 1 p.m. November 27. In partnership with their owners, the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi, they are expanding this year’s effort with a second meal site at Athens High School in Troy, Michigan, during the same hours to help meet growing community needs.
