As sports betting becomes more popular in the U.S., there’s an increased awareness that the industry’s growth must address problem gambling.
FanDuel was introduced Monday as a new partner of the American Gaming Association’s Have a Game Plan, Bet Responsibly initiative that promotes responsible sports betting.
“We believe promoting responsible gaming behaviors is a core tenet of growing our business and the industry as a whole,” said Matt King, CEO of FanDuel Group, in a statement. “We are not only going to commit substantial FanDuel resources to promote Have a Game Plan, but we intend to build a consortium of partners throughout the sports and gaming business to scale this initiative, and we encourage other operators to join us.”
FanDuel will make a multimillion-dollar commitment, including media inventory and assets such as television, radio, digital and in-venue media, to the venture. It’s the first mobile sports betting operator to join Have a Game Plan, Bet Responsibly
Bill Miller, president and CEO of the AGA, said FanDuel’s support and commitment to the responsible gaming program comes at a critical juncture, as more states consider the legalization of sports betting.
“Responsibility to our customers has always been a pillar of AGA member operations,” Miller said in a statement. “Extending this to meet the new realities of an expanded sports betting ecosystem is going to require full collaboration with everyone involved in it – gaming operators, media companies and leagues and teams. We’re excited to have a partner like FanDuel to help extend this important initiative.”
Have a Game Plan provides bettors with a state-by-state guide to legal sports betting operators, spotlights basic sports betting principles, and educates and raises awareness of the signs of problem gambling. The initiative was launched in late 2019, with the NHL, NASCAR, and the PGA among its partners.
Sports betting is currently legal in 25 states and the District of Columbia, with Georgia, Massachusetts and Ohio currently considering legalization.
