EPIC Risk Management and the NCAA Friday announced a new initiative to combat problem gambling among college students.
The program, unnamed, will be available on all NCAA campuses and at conferences later this year. It will consist of live in-person educational workshops and seminars, pre-recorded sessions, and on-demand virtual resources.
“This program is the latest action by the national office as the membership adapts to increased legalized sports wagering,” said NCAA Executive Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Stan Wilcox in a statement. “The NCAA continually assesses the evolving sports wagering landscape, and we are committed to providing tools, resources and educational initiatives for our schools and conferences.”
As part of the program, educational materials will focus on educating student athletes, coaches, administrators, game officials, and healthcare and support personnel.
“Our team is made up of industry experts, many with lived experience of gambling addiction, committed to raising awareness and preventing gambling harm,” said EPIC Risk Management CEO Paul Buck in a statement. “We are excited to work with the NCAA to further equip student-athletes and athletics personnel with the most comprehensive gambling harm preventative services, support, awareness and education.”
EPIC delivers education and resources to more than 15,000 athletes and more than 50,000 students worldwide each year in the highest risk sectors for gambling harm.
