One of the most famous people in the world is joining DraftKings.

It’s not future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady but his wife Gisele Bündchen, the environmental activist, philanthropist, and former super model.

The digital sports entertainment and gaming company announced Bündchen’s appointment Wednesday as special advisor to the CEO and board for environmental, social and corporate governance.

“Gisele Bündchen is a global icon who has utilized the platform she established in modeling, fashion, and entertainment, to lead and advocate for vital environmental and social causes,” DraftKings Chairman and CEO Jason Robins said in a statement Wednesday. “I believe that the strategic counsel and unique global perspective that Gisele brings to me and the board will be indispensable and, as evidenced by our Earth Day campaign, her impact will be immediate and far-reaching.”

Bündchen joins two other advisors to the DraftKings board – baseball ironman Cal Ripken, Jr., and Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan, both members of their respective sports’ Hall of Fames.

Globally, Bündchen is arguably more famous than her Super Bowl-winning husband. She was recognized in 2007 as one Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World and named a Goodwill Ambassador the United Nations Environment Programme in 2009. According to a story in the New Zealand Herald earlier this year, Bündchen’s net worth is $521 million.

In its ESG report, DraftKings affirmed a commitment to fighting global sustainable development challenges, including climate change, in alignment with the U.N.’s sustainability development goals. Bündchen will help promote the company’s environmental programs.

“It is very important for successful corporations to make the necessary shifts in ESG initiatives to truly make a difference on a global level,” Bündchen said in a statement. “In today’s world, in my opinion, it isn’t enough for companies to just be successful financially. Companies have to be successful in ALL areas, including social impact and sustainability initiatives that impact the future for all of us around the world.”

Bündchen is a supporter of numerous environmental and social projects, including the Projeto Água Limpa (Clean Water Project), which implements sustainable environmental water management systems near her hometown of Horizontina in Brazil. In 2020, she launched the Viva a Vida initiative to raise funds to plant 260,000 trees along the Xingu and Araguaia River in the Brazilian Amazon Rainforest.

Bündchen’s appointment is effective immediately.

The announcement comes a week after DraftKings joined Caesars Entertainment and FanDuel as the official sports betting partners of the National Football League.

Brady, who in February led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV, plans to return for his 22nd NFL season. He has won seven Super Bowl titles, six with the New England Patriots.
