Spectrum Gaming Group published its “U.S. Top 10 Trends to Watch for in 2025” list this week, with digital sweepstakes gaming at the top of the list, which the company says could pose an opportunity or a threat.

While sweepstakes sites could encourage states to legalize and regulate online casinos, experts warn that these sites are contributing to problem gambling, particularly among younger players.

Compiled with the help of Spectrum Gaming Capital, the list highlights issues that industry regulators, suppliers and operators “need to consider as they make plans for the coming year.”

Spectrum also highlights the growing trend of acquisitions across verticals, giving companies access to a larger pool of players. The company lists several examples, including DraftKings’ acquisition of Jackpocket and Accel Entertainment’s expansion into casino operations.

Responsible gaming remains a key concern for the industry, with Spectrum pointing out that operators are striving to address problematic gambling behavior earlier. However, the company points out that new legislation and regulations are required before this can happen.

Other trends that are expected to arise in 2025 according to the list include historical horse racing, igaming, skill machines, sports betting and policy changes. Additionally, New York City is expected to play a significant role in 2025 with the issuance of three downstate casino licenses, while Texas will continue pushing for the legalization of casinos and sports betting.
