D’IBERVILLE, Miss. (AP) — D’Iberville’s Scarlet Pearl Casino will open in December and the city is already making use of the more than $1 million expected to be added to the general fund each year.

The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1KCr5Ne) city officials have worked since 1992 to get a casino to town and have plenty of places to spend the money.

City Councilman Randall Pelous says roads across the city are being paved.

Mayor Rusty Quave says the city received a $20,000 grant from Lowe’s and it was matched with $20,000 from the city to plant palm trees and dress up the D’Iberville exit off Interstate 110 that people will use to reach Scarlet Pearl.

The city also invested in three new fire trucks, including a platform ladder truck.
