DEADWOOD, S.D. (AP) — The owners of a Deadwood casino have proposed a land swap with the city that could lead to a new public plaza on the tourist town’s Main Street.

The Rapid City Journal reports (http://bit.ly/2b89rHw ) that representatives of the Silverado-Franklin Historic Gaming Complex have offered to give the city the Franklin Motor Inn and its parking lot in exchange for a paved parking lot where the city-owned Deadwood Pavilion now stands.

The company says it would only agree to the swap if there are no increases in property or business improvement district taxes and no special assessments used to fund the project.

Deadwood Mayor Chuck Turbiville says there are two proposals for Main Street squares on the table and he wants to see more details on funding before lending any support.
