A panel of lawyers, legislators, and Native American leaders will discuss court rulings and how they affect the future of Indian gaming when the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States (NCLGS) holds its Summer Meeting on July 7-10 at the Westin Copley Place in Boston.
As the only gaming conferences where the legislative decision-makers meet, the NCLGS semiannual meetings attract legislators, regulators, operators, suppliers, attorneys, lobbyists, media, and other stakeholders, who discuss all aspects of regulated gaming. Dozens of legislators from across the country will be among the more than 250 expected attendees at the Summer Meeting.
The NCLGS Committee on Indian Gaming will examine “How Court Rulings are Shaping Internet Gaming for Tribes.” One of the most pertinent issues facing Indian gaming is the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s compact litigation and its implications for tribal participation in internet-based gaming. The panel will discuss the implications for tribal-state relations, including whether Congress and the U.S. Department of Interior is proactive or reactive.
Representative Georgene Louis of New Mexico, an officer of NCLGS, will moderate the panel discussion, which will include the following presenters:
- Rodney Butler, Chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation
- Derril Jordan, a Partner in the Maglio Christopher & Toale law firm
- Assembly member James C. Ramos of California
The four-day Summer Meeting will include:
- Six NCLGS Committee presentations
- Two general session panels
- Morning and luncheon keynote addresses
- International Masters of Gaming Law Masterclasses
- Two evening networking receptions
Once again, the GLI Regulator Seminar will co-locate with the NCLGS Summer Meeting, taking place July 7 at the Westin Copley Place.
The NCLGS Summer Meeting has been approved for 10 general credits of Continuing Legal Education by the State of Nevada.
