Court: NJ can sign lottery marketing contract (AP)

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) – A New Jersey appeals court says the state can move ahead with its plan to turn over sales and marketing of the New Jersey Lottery to a private vendor.

But the court could still reverse course.

Gov. Chris Christie wants to hand over some lottery functions to a joint venture known as Northstar New Jersey in a deal that would give the state government $120 million upfront.

The Communications Workers of America union, which represents lottery workers, sued to try to block the deal.

In a ruling issued Tuesday, two judges found there would be no irreparable harm by letting the state sign with Northstar.

More hearings on the issue will follow, though they have not been scheduled yet.
