My latest “Beyond Vegas” stop took me to Oregon for a few days at Seven Feathers Casino Resort. I’ve been to this property several times and it’s one of my favorites, for good reasons. The staff, the people, the clam chowder – it’s all awesome.

While I typically go in spring or summer, early December might be my new favorite time of year to visit. Obviously, Oregon is absolutely gorgeous in fall, with the changing colors of the leaves and the perfectly chilled weather that isn’t too cold just yet. But the other not-so-obvious reason is that Seven Feathers Casino goes all in for the holiday season.

I flew into Eugene and made the scenic drive of about an hour and a half to the property. As soon as I took the exit to Seven Feathers, I entered a winter wonderland. The streets leading to the property were lined with Christmas trees and twinkling lights. And these weren’t just a few lights; I’m talking a full-on display, worthy of a trip by itself.

The decor went well beyond the street. The entire property, inside and out, was decked out in a way that shows they take pride in creating a festive holiday atmosphere, from complimentary hot apple cider in the lobby and the company-wide gingerbread-house displays that visitors vote on to pictures with Santa. If you love the holidays, I highly recommend a visit to Seven Feathers during this time.

Now that I’ve fully gushed over the decor, let’s get to the rest of the trip. The gaming floor had great energy. I had some nice wins, including a jackpot on the slot game Spooky Link right before I left for the airport.

The table games were also really good to me. I had a fun Ultimate Texas Hold’Em session with a few perfectly timed bonus wins and a Spanish 21 triple-double win that left the dealer stunned.

Speaking of the dealers, they deserve extra credit; they were as always fun, friendly, perfectly sympathetic when I lost and excited when I won, and sharp on the payouts.

Despite my short trip, I managed to make time for a spa day. I treated myself to a massage and facial and both were perfection. The spa is peaceful and well-run with prices that don’t make you gasp. Oh, and the spa gift shop is really good. I always leave with at least one purchase. This trip, it was a really great facial moisturizer that was discounted half-price!

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the food at Seven Feathers. For a smaller property, there are tons of options. My favorite is Stix, the sports bar where I had the creole seafood melting pot worthy of getting two days in a row — and yes, I sure did. And no visit would be complete without the clam chowder at Cow Creek Restaurant, served on Fridays only.

Seven Feathers may be a smaller-market property, but this trip proved once again why I thoroughly enjoy visiting: big wins, great service, and a whole lot of charm.
