I recently had the chance to visit Prairie Band Casino & Resort, and it was just as enjoyable as my visit two years ago. This property is a hidden gem in Mayetta, Kansas, not too far from Topeka.
Cedar and Sage Spa
After checking in, I went straight to Cedar & Sage Spa to get an 80-minute massage. My goodness, it was so relaxing after a long day of travel. The therapist got all the right spots with the perfect amount of pressure. I didn’t have time to use the hot tub, steam room, or sauna, but they were available. What’s great about this spa is the price. Unlike most casinos that charge a fortune for spa services, Cedar & Sage is affordable but still comparable to other spas, in my experience.

After the massage and a nice soak in my hotel room’s tub, I was ready to explore the gaming floor. With over 1,200 slot machines, tons of video poker, and plenty of table games, there were so many choices. I got lucky right away, hitting a royal flush on my first video poker machine, and my luck kept going throughout my four-night stay, including an exciting jackpot on a $4 bet while playing Panda Empire by AGS.
A fun fact about Prairie Band Casino: They have a separate bingo gaming floor filled with Class 2 slots for anyone who craves those red screens.
While there, I dined at Three Fires Steakhouse, which has a relaxed vibe and some great food. I ordered the lobster tail and it was delicious. I also ate at the Longhouse Buffet and Embers Bar & Grille, and both were good. The buffet even lets you order food to go, which I did since my room had a fridge and microwave. It was a nice way to save some cash and get two meals out of it.
Three Fires Steakhouse
Since I believe it’s important to take breaks from gaming if staying at a property for more than a couple of days. If you enjoy golfing, the, designed by PGA pro Notah Begay III, is both challenging and beautiful. And if the weather doesn’t cooperate for a golf day, don’t worry! There is a Topgolf Swing Suite inside the resort. Additionally, the Topeka Zoo is just a short drive away, making for a fun day trip.

Finally, I can’t forget to mention the people. For me, it’s the staff that makes a property truly great, and the employees at Prairie Band Casino are amazing.
