Epoch Casino, a card room in Rancho Cordova, California, has closed less than a year after opening its doors. In a statement shared on Facebook and the venue’s official website, Epoch Casino’s owners cited “the many challenges we have experienced over the past year” as the reason for closing.
“We are deeply grateful for the unwavering support from our patrons, employees and partners during these difficult times,” the online statement reads. “Your dedication and loyalty have meant the world to us. On behalf of the ownership and the entire team, we extend our best wishes to everyone moving forward. Thank you for being a valued part of Epoch Casino.”
Located at 11275 Folsom Blvd., Epoch Casino was built on the site of the former Magnolia House Casino. The 13-table card room and restaurant opened for business in October 2023. President of Epoch Casino Inc., Xiaodong Wang, filed for a temporary card room license, a liquor license and caterer and event permits in November 2022.
At the Western Indian Gaming Conference this year, tribal leaders expressed concerns about the significant financial losses they say are being caused by card rooms in California. Legal card rooms are those that hold a valid license from the California Gambling Control Commission.
