California tribes say they’re losing $100 million per year to ‘illegal’ card-room games

By their own estimation, California‘s gaming tribes are being “cheated” out of $100 million per year. And Tuesday, at the Western Indian Gaming Conference at the Pechanga Casino Resort, a panel explained how and what tribes are trying to do about it.

Under current state law, California’s Indian Country is permitted exclusivity for certain types of gambling. Despite that, they say, California card rooms have, for decades, been permitted to offer banned games, in part because the state’s politicians don’t want to “tangle” with each other over policy. Furthermore, the tribes have been refused the opportunity to sue the card clubs.
