“Caesars Republic Lake Tahoe Hotel & Casino” will be the new name of venerable Harveys Lake Tahoe. Caesars Entertainment announced the news on April 1.
A $160 million makeover of the property is set to start July 1 and Harveys will remain open during the overhaul. The property will also change its designation to Caesars Republic at that time. Room bookings are being taken.
According to Caesars COO Anthony Carano, work has already been launched. “The property transformation has begun and will continue throughout 2026 with the all-new hotel tower, hotel lobby, restaurants, and the start of a completely reimagined casino coming online this summer,” he said in a prepared statement.
“Our second phase will begin in the fall, with the entire project completing next summer,” continued Carano, referring to 2026.
Added ongoing General Manager Karie Hall, “This transformation honors the storied history of Harveys, while introducing modern amenities and elevated experiences.”
Marnell Cos. has been retained to oversee the project, which will commence in the hotel lobby and progress to the casino floor and hotel. Caesars promises a thorough re-imagination of the casino space, from carpeting, chair, and lighting to game signage. Spaces for both high-limit gambling and World Series of Poker action are planned, as are new slot machines, for a total of 1,200 devices, along with roughly 100 table games.
The hotel’s Mountain Tower will be renamed the Remus Tower “and will introduce butler service for select suites in both of the destination’s hotel towers.” Harveys Tahoe Tower will become the Romulus Tower, though it isn’t slated for a remodel, having received a renovation in 2020, but will be “refreshed,” according to Caesars.
The lobby bar will become Cleo’s Coffee & Cocktails and, by night, will be a high-end lounge. The Hell’s Kitchen restaurant is being expanded and a Lisa Vanderpump eatery, Wolf, will be added.
This will not be the first Caesars Republic-branded property. A Hilton Hotel of the same moniker was opened in Scottsdale, Arizona, in 2023.
The rebranding parallels a renovation going on across the street at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe. A craft beer restaurant, Brew Brothers, recently opened at Harrah’s, and “technological advancements and property-wide improvements are underway,” per the company.
Harveys Lake Tahoe is famous in law-enforcement history, having been the site of an attempted shakedown by John Birges, Sr. The IED planted by the elder Birges was detonated by the FBI on August 27, 1980, ripping through five floors of the property. Harveys was subsequently repaired and remains in operation to this day.
