They lined up by the dozens at Hollywood Casino in Kansas City, Kansas, on Thursday afternoon, with money in their hands and luck on their minds.

Dozens of people walked up to the Barstool Sportsbook kiosk inside the casino to place their bets on the first day of legal sports wagering in Kansas.

The state became the latest to legalize sports betting, days before Week 1 of the college football season started and a week before the NFL season kicked off.

Officially, Gov. Laura Kelly became the first person in the state to place a bet, wagering $15 on the Kansas City Chiefs to win Super Bowl LVII.
