The Bureau of Indian Affairs has released a draft environmental impact statement for a proposed casino in Kenosha, according to the Menominee Indian Tribe.

The tribe wants to build a Hard Rock casino in the southeastern corner of the state, but needs multiple federal state and approvals to do so, including an environmental assessment.

“Both the City of Kenosha and Kenosha County have approved agreements supporting the project, and the EA release marks an important new step in the federal review process,” the tribe said a statement Friday.

Menominee Tribal Chairman Joey Awonohopay said, “This is a long-awaited opportunity, and we are excited to have arrived at the next phase in this process.”
