The top donor to next month’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in San Francisco is a casino 50 miles north of the city, one that has begun wooing Asian American customers as it breaks ground on a sweeping expansion and builds influence in California politics.
By last week, $4.6 million investment by Graton Casino & Resort appeared to be paying dividends. Greg Sarris, chair of the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria — the tribe that owns the sprawling Rohnert Park casino — stood beside Mayor London Breed at a City Hall podium Tuesday morning, both of them grinning for a scrum of TV news cameras. Breed introduced Sarris as a partner to San Francisco with a passion for good causes.
