The board released its January activity report on Wednesday, stating that it collected a total of $22.5 million in revenue from Portsmouth’s casino and Hard Rock Bristol, which opened its doors in July. Rivers Casino Portsmouth received its operating license in November and opened on Jan. 23.

Portsmouth’s casino, located on Victory Boulevard near Tidewater Community College, generated a total of $1.6 million in tax revenue, with $542,357 of that headed to the city in a regional fund for education, transportation and public safety improvements. The state’s Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund as well as the Family and Children’s Trust Fund will also receive shares of the tax revenue.
