The developers of the Richmond Grand Resort and Casino have added another promise to its growing list: the prospect of hundreds of union construction jobs.
Casino officials on Tuesday signed a project labor agreement with the Richmond Area Building and Construction Trades Council. Charles Skelly, president of the council, said the agreement will ensure jobs with family-sustaining wages as well as benefits for skilled workers.
“This project is good for the city for many reasons, and the most important reason is the jobs building and operating the resort and entertainment facility,” said Skelly, whose organization represents iron workers, carpenters, millwrights, electricians and other workers. “Not just any jobs, but careers with family-sustaining wages, health care coverage without a paycheck deduction and the ability to one day retire with dignity.”
