UK: Leeds’ biggest casino will be sold to Merkur after council approval

A ‘super casino’ in Leeds is set to be taken over by a new operator after license terms were agreed with the council.

An agreement has been reached to sell Victoria Gate Casino in Leeds to Merkur Casino Entertainment UK. Leeds City Council said a large casino premises license for the venue, previously operated by VGC Leeds Ltd, would be transferred.

A licensing report said: “The Gambling Act 2005 limited the number of new large casinos nationally and identified a small number of authorities, including Leeds, that were permitted to grant such a license.
