Hundreds of people experienced disruption to gambling harm support during the transition to Britain’s new statutory levy funding system, GamCare has confirmed.
The charity said the overhaul exposed weaknesses in the coordination of treatment and support services as responsibility moved away from the previous voluntary funding model and towards public-sector commissioning.
In its annual report for the year ending 31 March 2026, GamCare described the transition as the most significant period of change in its history.
The charity said responsibility for commissioning gambling harm services had moved to five separate bodies across England, Scotland and Wales, which were all at different stages and did not have a clear overarching structure in place.
