Category B gaming machines will be subject to new regulation in the UK, as per the result of a Gambling Commission (UKGC) consultation.

The new rules, intended to make the machines safer and fairer, stipulate that category B machines must provide consumers with improved access to gambling management tools and sessional information. This ‘sessional information’ will allow players to see exactly how long they have been playing and how much they have won or lost.

Licensees will also have access to this data to help meet regulatory obligations around interacting with players exhibiting harm.

Crucially, existing machines are exempt from the regulation due to the technical and financial difficulties in retroactive implementation.
