A punter who sued Betfair over nearly £1.5 million [$2.0 million] in losses after claiming they should have known he was a problem gambler has lost his case in the Court of Appeal.

Property tycoon Lee Gibson had run up the losses betting on sports, usually football matches, in a ten-year period between 2009 and 2019 before his account was suspended. He took legal action to try and recover the greater part of those losses, those suffered in the six years running up to the issue of his claim, arguing that Betfair should have taken action to stop him gambling.

A high court judge rejected that case last year but Gibson appealed and the case was heard by three judges in October.
