Gambling in Texas continues to be a hot-button issue, with advocates putting serious weight behind efforts to bring legalized sports betting to the state and a state government steadfast in its stance that it’s a non-starter. But where do actual Texans stand on the Issue? A new study from the University of Houston has shed some light on Texans’ true feelings toward gambling legislation.

In a poll administered by the University of Houston’s Hobby School of Public Affairs, adult Texans were asked their views on bills the Texas Legislature is considering during the 2025 legislative session and other important political issues on the agenda.

The analysis population consists of 1,200 individuals representative of the Texas adult population matched to a sampling frame on gender, age, race/ethnicity and education. This means that the results are proportional to the state’s demographics.
