Opportunity among uncertainty was the underlying current of the University of Arizona’s Global Symposium on Racing.

The initial speakers of the annual confab, which drew 563 attendees Tuesday and Wednesday in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains, set that tone.

Fox Sports executive vice president Mike Mulvihill kicked things off by detailing how the divergence of streaming and broadcast television is an opportunity for racing, because broadcast TV is relying more on live sports.

Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority CEO Lisa Lazarus followed with a call to arms. “This is our moment,” she said. “And it’s unlikely to replicate itself.”
