The owners of a popular beach bar are dropping their plan to build a beachfront swimming pool as part of their expansion project.

Lisa John-Basta, an attorney for applicants SECAA LLC, said Monday the company is no longer interested in building the pool as part of the Cocorico project.

The expansion of the former Chelsea Beach Bar has drawn vociferous opposition from nearby residents, including many residents of the Ocean Club Condominiums.

“The beach bar has been extremely problematic since day one,” said City Councilwoman Maria Lacca, who has called on the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority to reject the proposal.
