The Virginia House of Delegates is expected to vote on the Fairfax County casino bill next week. On Friday, the bill moved out of committee for the first time in three attempts to advance the legislation.

The bill calls for a casino to be built anywhere in Fairfax County, provided it is part of a mixed use entertainment development.

Supporters say the county is desperate for the revenue a casino could generate, as well as jobs.

Sen. Scott Surovell (D-Fairfax County) revived legislation this year. “Fairfax County has the highest real estate tax rate of any jurisdiction in the state except for Falls Church,” Surovell told WUSA9 in January.
