Sports betting is one step closer to becoming legal in Oklahoma after an Oklahoma House committee moved a bill forward Thursday.
The House Committee on Appropriations and Budget passed House Bill 1027 with a vote of 27-4, which would legalize sports betting in Oklahoma. This is author state Rep. Ken Luttrell’s second attempt to bring this kind of betting to the state after the bill struggled to gain support last session.
Luttrell said the bill was written broadly to allow for any changes that might be made during the lawmaking process. As it’s written right now, this legislation would allow Native American tribes to enter into a new sports betting compact.
