The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has opened an initial inquiry into Sportradar’s proposed acquisition of IMG Arena, launching a two-week consultation period to assess the potential competition impact of the deal.

The regulator is seeking comments from interested parties by 25 July, as it evaluates whether the transaction could lead to a substantial lessening of competition in any UK markets.

The move forms part of the CMA’s Phase 1 assessment under the Enterprise Act 2002, although a formal investigation has not yet begun.

A Sportradar spokesperson told NEXT.io: “This is a normal part of the CMA merger control process.” It announced its agreement to acquire IMG Arena from entertainment giant Endeavor in March, in a deal worth more than $225m.
