Those who work with gambling addiction are keeping an eye on the legislation and wondering how it will impact the state.

South Dakota is among the states with the highest per capita numbers of casinos and gambling machines. Keystone Treatment Center is one of only two in-patient gambling addiction treatment centers in South Dakota.

Keystone’s Matt Walz says sports betting in general targets young men.

“By the time a patient gets to Keystone Treatment center for a compulsive gambling issue, in general we see them in debt, generally around 250 thousand dollars on average.” Walz said.
