During his company’s earnings call, Rush Street Interactive Chief Financial Officer Kyle Sauers said “I don’t want to spike the ball just yet,” referring to the imminent demise of Colombia’s 19% value-added tax on gaming deposits, due to expire on December 31.
Sauers’ caution proved warranted. On Thursday 29, the new, right-wing Colombian government proposed a revived, 19% VAT.
Article 41 of the regime’s planned fiscal-reform act would tax player deposits at the new level, beginning in 2027. As Jefferies Equity Research analyst David Katz said in a 30 October investor note, this would be “effectively recreating the tax structure RSI faced in 2025.”
Katz pointed out that the tax must past muster with legislative committees, as well as votes of both houses of the Colombian parliament. He called the tax a potential 2027 adversity for RSI.
